Physics & Engineering at Ouachita

Ouachita’s physics and engineering programs seek to prepare its graduates to become successful researchers, teachers and applied scientists in today’s competitive marketplace. Our training allows students to develop widely sought-after skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and independent learning that they will use the rest of their lives.

Students are also strongly encouraged to engage in either independent research, internships or as part of a faculty lead team. These opportunities exist both on campus through the OBU summer research program or off-campus through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at numerous universities around the United States or through various companies. These are great experiences that give students first-hand knowledge in applying what they have been learning in the context of real-world problem solving.

It is also very important to our department that we foster a feeling of community. We strongly encourage our students to engage in various departmental activities throughout the year as well as taking part in activities hosted by Ouachita. This gives students a sense of belonging and increases their confidence and success within our programs.
