Jazz Band
The Ouachita Jazz Band is dedicated to the study and performance of outstanding jazz
ensemble/big band literature. Emphasis is placed on learning different jazz styles,
ensemble techniques and improvisational skills. The Jazz Band instrumentation is the
standard big band instrumentation of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section.
The band also features vocalists.
Performances
The Ouachita Jazz Band performs campus concerts, jazz festivals, special engagements
and regional tours throughout the academic year.
Membership
Membership in the Ouachita Jazz Band is open to all Ouachita students through an audition.
The ensemble is auditioned each semester. Fall auditions are held the week of registration.
Spring auditions are held in November. The Ouachita Jazz Band rehearses on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00-12:50 p.m. both semesters. Members of the Jazz Band
receive 0.5 hours of academic credit.
