Brands and Ear Marks 

Names found in Brands and Ear Marks, 1847-1861 compiled by Meeks Etchieson from records in the Clark County courthouse. The volume includes names of individuals registering the markings used to identify livestock in Clark County from 1847 to 1861, as well as a brief description of those marks and brands.

CCHA Vertical Files 

Titles of folders found in the Clark County Historical Association’s Vertical Files, which include  newsclippings and compiled family histories in addition to information on specific individuals, topics, and communities. The files have been gathered over the course of several decades. The collection began as a catch-all for items having valuable information or other important content, but not associated with other specific manuscript collections. However, intentional newsclipping collecting efforts greatly increased the number and significance of the files during the past twenty years.

Names included in miscellaneous records of all types and time periods of Clark County history. The unfiled, “loose” documents were found throughout the courthouse basement area in the 1990s, and were gathered together to form this set of records. File numbers (not case numbers) are listed.

Clark County Deeds of Trust (loose), 1915-1916 

Names from Deeds of Trust for 1915 and 1916. Deeds of Trust establish an agreement between a lender and a borrower to transfer an interest in the borrower's property, to secure the payment of a debt by the borrower, and can be used in place of a mortgage. Animals and cotton are the most commonly used form of security in these documents.

Clark County Redemption Certificates, 1933-1934

Names of individuals who paid their real estate property taxes late or not at all, and the person who eventually made payment. Land owners could “redeem” (or pay) their taxes to remove the threat of losing their property, or, unpaid balances could also be subject to sale to a third party. These certificates provided proof that taxes were paid.

Through the Eyes of Farrar Newberry

Names and subjects from Through the Eyes of Farrar Newberry: Clark County, Arkansas, a compilation of Newberry’s local history articles that appeared in Arkadelphia’s Southern Standard newspaper. Writing in the 1950s and 1960s, Newberry utilized oral histories, documents that have not survived the past six decades, historical sites long since vanished, and his own personal recollections to tell the story of Clark County and Arkansas.
