School of Humanities
The School of Humanities at Ouachita addresses career and life skills in two key areas
- language and communication. The Department of Language and Literature and the Rogers
Department of Communications prepare students for a wide range of careers and a lifetime
of learning.
The Rogers Department of Communications offers majors in mass communications and speech.
Mass Communications is one of the largest majors on campus, encompassing courses in
advertising, public relations, video production, broadcasting, online communications,
photography and print journalism. Speech courses develop the skill of addressing large
or small groups, while also focusing on the nature of positive communication.
Language and Literature offers majors in English and Spanish, as well as courses in
a wide variety of other languages. English majors study the world's great literature
and add their own contributions through analysis and creative writing. Spanish gives
students an important skill in today's multicultural world and is often chosen as
a second major by students from any of Ouachita's seven schools.
