School of Humanities

The School of Humanities at Ouachita addresses career and life skills in two key areas - language and communication. The Department of Language and Literature and the Rogers Department of Communications prepare students for a wide range of careers and a lifetime of learning.

The Rogers Department of Communications offers majors in mass communications and speech. Mass Communications is one of the largest majors on campus, encompassing courses in advertising, public relations, video production, broadcasting, online communications, photography and print journalism. Speech courses develop the skill of addressing large or small groups, while also focusing on the nature of positive communication.

Language and Literature offers majors in English and Spanish, as well as courses in a wide variety of other languages. English majors study the world's great literature and add their own contributions through analysis and creative writing. Spanish gives students an important skill in today's multicultural world and is often chosen as a second major by students from any of Ouachita's seven schools.

The Humanities faculty is highly qualified and devoted to teaching. I invite you to learn more about the faculty, curricula and activities of the School of Humanities by clicking the heading for each department.

Please also keep in mind that I am here to answer questions and offer help in any way I can. Please feel free to contact me directly.
