Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host guest vocalist Carolann Sanita in a musical theatre cabaret program at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The program will also feature John Alec Briggs on piano and is free of charge and open to the public.
Sanita earned a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance and a master of music degree in opera performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She has performed as Maria in the European and Asian tours of West Side Story, as Marian in the first national tour of The Music Man and in numerous Off Broadway and regional theatre productions. Sanita currently lives in New York where she performs and teaches.
Sanita’s program at Ouachita will feature selections by such composers as Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim and Jeanie Tesori.
Sanita will also lead a masterclass for musical theatre students from 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. She “has a passion for sharing what she has learned from auditioning in the New York musical theatre scene,” noted Dr. Margaret Garrett, OBU assistant professor of music and a classmate of Sanita’s at UNC.
