Years from now, I won’t remember today’s date as Tax Day 2014. I’ll remember it (much more joyfully) as the day OBU at New Life Church dropped its very first stack of acceptance letters in the mail to its very first round of admitted students.
Classes begin August 26, 2014. And when they do, they will show the result of months and years of preparation and planning. The vision for this program has matured in the heart of Pastor Rick Bezet since the first days of New Life Church. It embodies Ouachita’s 125-year-old commitment to world-class Christian education and Christian service. In just a few short months, our first freshman class will bring it all to life.
We’ll tell you more about these incredible students in coming weeks. For now, let me tell you why I’m excited about them. They are pioneers, these young men and women. They are helping Ouachita and NLC build something new—a program that I believe one day will be a model for colleges and churches the world over. They will prove to their peers when they transfer to complete their bachelors studies that a deeper understanding of Scripture and our faith tradition enriches their understanding of history and literature and politics and science. They will prove in their service that a deeper understanding of history and literature and politics and science enriches their ministry to Christ’s church. They will set the standard for classes to follow. They are creating a legacy.
All that begins today, really, with this stack of letters.
There is still time to join this first class of difference makers. We don’t want you to miss the chance to be part of the exciting work God is doing here.
