Andrea Senior Communication Science and Disorders Major

Andrea decided to pursue a major in communication sciences and disorders (also known as speech pathology) after witnessing the benefits her younger sister has experienced through therapy. Andrea’s sister is hearing impaired and has cerebral palsy. For the past eight years, Andrea’s sister has worked with a speech therapist and has made significant progress.

Andrea feels led to this field of study because of her personal experience with the benefits of therapy and because she knows there is demand in the field, particularly in providing speech therapy for children. One requirement of Ouachita’s program involves supervised interaction with speech therapy clients. Andrea says this experience has been very valuable to her and that she feels she’s able to make a difference in the lives of her clients. “It is a good feeling knowing that you are able to help children feel good about themselves.”
