Why Serve?
Other than the fact you get a free breakfast and a cool t-shirt for participating in Tiger Serve Day, service is a vital component in Christian living. Jesus displayed service through healing, teaching, washing His disciples' feet, and ultimately in His death on the cross for the sins of mankind. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul reminds them that Jesus "made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! (Phil. 2:6-8)" It is in this same attitude that we strive to serve those around us. Service takes the focus off ourselves and reminds us of others' needs. In doing so, we display the love that Christ has lavished on humanity, opening doors to recieve our neighbors into the kingdom of God. |
