School Supplies Needed!!! I am writing on behalf of my future brother-in-law, who is a deployed soldier in Iraq. He has asked that we send him school supplies so the soldiers can distribute them to Iraqi children. This is a great need right now and helps build strong relationships between our soldiers and the communities in which they serve. School supplies are starting to go on sale and we are asking that you pick up a few extra items to help support the efforts our troops are making. Does anyone want to help send food to these people in Zimbabwe? Their economy is in extreme hyper inflation and people are starving to death right now as you read this. If you're interested in sending some food, email me. Many of these people are Christians. The following is a letter that will give you the details. My friends, I have felt burdened to email you all and let you know about the situation here, and to ask for prayer. I don’t know how much you all know or have seen about what’s happening here in Zimbabwe, so I’m just going to paint you a picture. Since coming back I have seen a lot of hurt amongst the people: there was no food in the shops, no money in the banks, limits on how much you could withdraw, violence and fear. New money notes were being issued constantly – the highest we currently have is $5,000,000,000 (yes, that is $5billion!) and that will not even get you basics. A small packet of mushrooms is $60bill. There is seldom any bread and milk. We (my family) are blessed enough to have a small supply of bread flour so we can make our own bread, but others less fortunate then us are starving… On Friday 27th August, we had our re-run of the election, and without a doubt, Mugabe won. The reason why Morgan Tsvangarai pulled out was because he could not handle any more of the violence being dished out to the innocent people. A colleague who I worked with before I came to university was traveling home in a taxi, and a mob of Mugabe supporters forced all the people out, and forced them to chant songs supporting Mugabe. My colleague, who is ill with TB, was made to walk kilometers because he wasn’t singing with “enough vigor.” Finally, he was able to show them his medical certificate proving he was really sick, and all they said was “you’re lucky.” Another example of the violence is a 4yr old boy who was beaten as his mother was dragged away. It is one thing for them to beat men and women, but for them to hurt children, just takes Mugabe’s evil to another level. I started writing this a couple days ago: now, the highest note is $50billion, and yesterday I wrote a check for $1,252,032,000,000.00 (yes, that’s 1trillion, 252billion, and 32million dollars!) That is so ridiculous! We only bought 3 packets of meat, some lettuce, chocolate and a swiss roll. 1 single bread roll cost $10billion. Prices have rocketed this week and there is seriously nothing in the shops to buy. I fear for those in the rural areas who are suffering and starving. The power and water situation has been pretty bad too. We have power cuts every second day, and it’s out for the whole day. Friends of ours haven’t had power for over 3 days now. Some other friends haven’t had water since April 2007. We are falling apart at the seams, and I can only appeal to you for prayer. The whites are definitely in the minority, and there has been a rumour going around saying that we’d better keep a low profile. If sanctions are imposed on the country things could become very difficult. Please be praying. It hurts me so much to see the state of the country. All this foolishness has been going on since about 1999/2000 and I don’t think I realized the severity of the situation because I was still young. Now that I’m old enough to understand, it makes me so angry that one man (Mugabe) can bring so much distress/hurt/devastation/violence upon the people. He is mocking God and essentially playing with fire. He was quoted saying: “Only God can remove me from power” – an open threat to our almighty God. He better watch out. This email is so hard to write, and is physically wearing me out. But, in truth, this situation is teaching us to rely on God. At the moment, my family has run out of bread, meat, and those 2 minute noodles, so we don’t really know what we’re going to be eating but God gives us our daily bread. I don’t want this email to be about how we are suffering, but I want to give you an idea of how to pray, and a picture of what everyone is going through. I am sending this email out in the hopes that countless prayers will be raised, and so that the people here may sense God's presence and comfort in this uncertain time. I am telling you now that the people here get so encouraged to hear of people praying. When I was at the airport, a woman cleaning the bathroom just started to talking to me about Zimbabwe, and I said that even though I am studying in America, Zimbabwe will always be my home and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. She asked me to remember the people (especially in the rural areas) in prayer, and I told her that my friends at school had all been praying earnestly... her face lit up. So please continue. 25" Sanyo TV $15 - AS IS/PICK UP ONLY It was manufactured 1991. Picture is fine. No AV inputs - only has a cable port. I have been using it with a universal remote and the remote just stopped working last week. I don't know if it is a problem with the remote or the TV. Hey all, I am writing to ask everyone to please pray for my nephew. My brother and his "wife" divorced a while back and there has been a custody battle over my nephew. My brother's ex-wife has temporary custody over T'Jon until my brother returns from Iraq. My parents have been getting T'Jon for my brother's time (one month out of every three) and things aren't looking to good. My nephew is extremely delayed in speech and motorskills. He is two and a half and is on a one to one and a half year old level. His mother has not done anything that the court has ordered her to do, and now our attourney is pressing to take the case back into court to get T'Jon into my mom and dad's care permanently until my brother returns from Iraq. Please, if you know of any really strong prayer warriors, please pass this prayer request on. Also please put us on your prayer lists at church.
