 Student Concern Alert System

Your success matters to us…

What is a Student Concern Alert System?

Ouachita Baptist University is committed to student success and retention. For this reason, an early alert process has been developed to help adapting students achieve academic success.  The Student Concern Alert System is a software program that enables instructors to identify students having difficulties in their classes and connect them with campus services that can help.

Why does OBU have a Student Concern Alert System?

Even though OBU is a small campus, students desiring help often are not sure of where to go or how to get the support they need.  The Student Concern Alert system directs students to the right place to get the resources necessary to help them succeed.

What should I do if I receive a Concern Alert?

First, please know that receiving a Student Concern Alert is NOT a punishment.  Rather, it indicates that your instructor cares about your success and wants to direct you to where you can receive additional help.  Receiving a Student Concern Alert is an opportunity for you to address the issues preventing you from excelling academically.

Second, please be sure to read the entire Student Concern Alert e-mail and follow the instructions mentioned within the alert itself.  This system has been implemented for your benefit and helps ensure your success at Ouachita Baptist University.

What can I do if I need help in my class?

The instructor is the best resource a student has to answer any questions. Other support services include tutoring, drop-in tutoring labs, writing labs, and guided study assistance. For tutoring assistance, fill out a Tutor Request Form and return it to Academic Success Center (Lile 122).

Suggestion when meeting with your instructor:

When meeting with your instructor or advisor about the alert, do not make excuses; instead, focus on resolving the issues. Remember your instructor is the expert on what it takes to succeed in this course.
