“Before I came to Ouachita, I was very confused about life and the right path for me. I knew I wanted to help sick children, but I wasn’t sure how I could do that other than going to med school.
However, being in a program that has poured into me personally, spiritually, and academically has given me the peace and clarity to know God’s plan for my life, and proven to me that I can reach my goals. I have, as an undergrad, accomplished things most people aren’t even exposed to until graduate school. With the guidance of Dr. Lori Hensley, I have killed childhood cancer, presented my research at both the local and national level, and realized my passion for gaining knowledge and helping others can be a very worthwhile career. Not only do I love talking to others about my cancer research, but I feel like I’m making a difference in the world.
I know my interaction with the faculty and the opportunities to follow my dreams at OBU, opportunities that weren’t available to me at other places, have been invaluable to me. I also know that because of the impact Ouachita has made on me, I want to one day give back to students in the same way.”

“Ouachita helped me discover my future goals by providing me with professors who noticed my interest in the visual system and then allowed me to pursue that interest through a summer research project and an independent study course, both of which helped to prepare me for Optometry school.”
