William Fenna and Emily Rogers

Formerly named the Department of Speech Communication, the department was renamed in honor of William Fenna and Emily Rogers during the 2008-2009 school-year.

Fenna Rogers graduated from Ouachita in 1907.  An outstanding athlete, scholar, and orator, Rogers later obtained an M.A. in theology from Princeton.  He had a long and distinguished career as both a teacher and a minister.

The influence of this Ouachita graduate led his son, Bill Rogers, Jr. to establish a charitable Foundation in his father's honor, which supported schools and churches which had impacted the lives of the father and son.

Upon the death of Bill Rogers, Jr., the Department of Speech Communication at Ouachita was the recipient of a generous gift from the Rogers Foundation.  Bill Rogers wished for the gift to honor his parents, Fenna and Emily; the department is very proud to be associated with the Rogers' name.
