North Campus Redevelopment

On a hill overlooking the beautiful Ouachita River valley, a significant redevelopment is underway at Ouachita Baptist University.

Beginning at a new main entrance to the campus, a winding, landscaped boulevard will welcome visitors while taking full advantage of the natural features of the campus. The drive will progress along the edge of the river’s bluff as it leads to a state-of-the-art college housing development.

Architectural Design
The architectural design creates a village-like environment in which the buildings are visually separated into residentially scaled “houses.” Each house contains eight suites over four floors accommodating a total of thirty-two students. The residence halls include upper level open-air terraces, fitness rooms, laundry facilities on each floor, game rooms, and study rooms. In addition, students will congregate in each building’s central lobby spaces, furnished with all the comforts of home. See a complete layout of the suites...

Virtual Tour
Altogether, the three new residence halls encircle an expansive open lawn ringed with trees. Already informally referred to as “The Circle,” the space is sure to become a popular student destination for recreation and leisure. This college green environment reaches toward the south campus via an attractive new plaza and redesigned pedestrian bridge. In the video tour below, we begin at the rear of the Sturgis Physical Education Center and continue along the Ouachita River bank until we sweep around the development onto North Campus.

Beginning Summer 2008
Construction of the student housing complex is anticipated to begin in summer 2008. The three new residence halls will house approximately 500 students. When complete, the project will replace over one-third of Ouachita’s residence hall facilities while providing a strong and vital link between the north and south sides of campus.

A New North Campus
With the completion of this project, Ouachita will have an entirely new look to the north side of the campus as well as a new introduction to the campus as a whole. The new entrance boulevard, new residence halls, a new face to the Sturgis Physical Education Building, a new pedestrian plaza and other improvements will combine to truly re-develop the north campus. The image below shows how this area might appear in the near future, including a potential fourth new residence hall to accommodate future growth.
