About the Next President

Through a succession of presidencies, Ouachita has prospered under leadership that is stable and inspired. The trustees anticipate that the next president will possess the qualities that have enabled previous administrators to achieve success in this very important role: a deep appreciation for the life of the mind and for the role of a university in the advancement of education; an empathy for the unique mission of Ouachita to combine the love of God with the love of learning; and a sensitivity to the historic connections to Ouachita’s Baptist heritage and to nurturing a Christ-centered environment for the campus.

The next president must bring to these tasks a variety of skills: an excellent ability to communicate; the capacity for leading others to organize and execute successful fund-raising initiatives; an eagerness to listen; and the leadership qualities necessary to achieve success within the context of a complex environment.
