The Ouachita Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Craig Hamilton, will be performing on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jones Performing Art Center on Ouachita Baptist University’s Arkadelphia campus. There will also be a live webcast of the concert at www.obu.edu/band.
“We would like for everyone to come enjoy a wonderful evening of jazz,” said Hamilton, OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music, director of bands and music education chair. “We are doing some great new charts and we have several new members in the band. Students and faculty can look forward to a variety of jazz music which covers many different styles—from swing to funk to Latin.”
The concert will include the following selections: W. Scott Ragsdale’s arrangement of “I Thought about You,” “Rumba Latina” by Victor Lopez, Dave Rivello’s arrangement of “My Ship,” Dave Wolpe’s arrangement of “Secret Love,” “King Strut” by Dean Sorenson, “All in Good Time” by Les Hooper and Rick Seigler’s arrangement of “Lester Leaps In.”
It will also include: “Southeast Sixstep” by Eric Richards, Greg Yasinitsky’s arrangement of “Shiny Stockings,” Chris Sharp’s arrangement of “I Love You,” Sammy Nestico’s arrangement of “Easy to Love,” Mark Taylor’s arrangement of “Look of Love,” Dave Wolpe’s arrangement of “Man I Love” and Jerry Nowak’s arrangement of “What a Wonderful World.”
The evening will also feature vocal soloist Leslyn Ichter, a senior choral music education major from Conway, Ark., as well as several student instrumental soloists. “This will be Leslyn’s last semester with us as our vocalist—she has done a wonderful job,” Hamilton said.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Craig Hamilton at email@example.com or (870) 245-5137.
