Ouachita Baptist University will host the 8th annual 10-Minute Play Festival on Saturday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre.
The 10-Minute Play Festival, also known as All Night Theatre, consists of five or six student-written and -directed 10-minute plays. “This festival has grown into one of our favorite events,” said Katie Willhite, a junior Christian studies and theatre major from Rowlett, Texas. “It provides opportunities for students from all over campus, not just theater and English majors, to take part in the theatrical craft.”
Auditions for the festival will be held Thursday, March 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Verser. Rehearsals will begin the evening of March 12 at 7:30 p.m. and will carry on through the night in preparation for the final show on Saturday.
“I am constantly amazed at how talented my peers are in acting, writing and directing. All Night Theatre pushes students to give their all in such a short time,” said Rachel Street, a senior musical theatre major from Mahomet, Ill. “I love the fact that everything is a little crazy. I say craziness creates beauty.”
The program directors for the festival are Rachel Street, Katie Willhite and Rudy Jones, a sophomore theatre arts major from Smackover, Ark.
“The purpose of this festival is to provide an outlet for student playwrights, performers and directors to perform their craft in a not-so-stressful atmosphere,” Willhite said. “My favorite part of the festival is getting to see students from all over campus taking part in and enjoying the art that is so special to me.”
