Nine students represent Ouachita at collegiate honor choir
Nine music students were chosen to represent Ouachita Baptist University at the Southwestern American Choral Directors Association collegiate honor choir held in Kansas City, Mo., February 20-22, 2008.

Division of Music presents tenth anniversary commemorative recital
As part of the tenth anniversary celebration for the Mary Shambarger Competition for Singers, a commemorative recital featuring nine former winners of the competition will be presented at 7:30 pm on February 26, 2008, in the McBeth Recital Hall of the Mabee Fine Arts Center on the OBU campus.

OBU's Stephen Ray to compete in grand finals of Metropolitan Opera Auditions
Ouachita Baptist University student Stephen Ray, a senior music major from Sherwood, Ark., was named one of nine singers who will compete in the grand finals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, next Sunday, February 24 at 2:00 PM.

Trombonist Nitzan Haroz to give guest recital and masterclass
The division of music in the School of Fine Arts at Ouachita Baptist University will host trombonist Nitzan Haroz on Sunday, February 24, at 8:00 p.m. in a guest recital in the McBeth Recital Hall of Mabee Fine Arts Center. Haroz will also present a masterclass on Monday, February 25, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall.

Taylor presented at Hawaii International Conference on Arts & Humanities
Dr. Caroline Taylor, professor of saxophone and double reeds at Ouachita Baptist University was invited to present at the 6th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities.

Ray named two-time regional winner at Metropolitan Opera Auditions
For the second time in three years, Stephen Ray has been named the winner of the Mid-South Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Ray is from Sherwood, AR, and a senior at Ouachita Baptist University.

Ouachita student selected as district finalist in Metropolitan Opera Auditions
Ouachita Baptist University student Stephen Ray, a senior music major from Sherwood, Ark., was chosen as a district finalist in the annual National Council Auditions held by the Metropolitan Opera National Council.

School of Fine Arts presents second annual concerto competition
The Bernice Young Jones School of Fine Arts will present its second annual instrumental concerto competition this Friday, December 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus.

Dr. Caroline Taylor, professor of music at Ouachita Baptist University, has been invited to perform at the 2007 Conference of the College Music Society held November 15-18 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and for the Society’s Community Engagement program.

Saxophonist Kenneth Tse performs in McBeth Recital Hall
Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University are co-sponsoring internationally-recognized classical saxophonist Kenneth Tse who will present a master class and a recital in Arkadelphia on Tuesday, November 13, 2007.

Secrest's article published in national journal
Dr. Glenda Secrest’s article, “Songs from Letters and Cowboy Songs by Libby Larsen: Two Different Approaches to Western Mythology and Western Mythological Figures” was published in the September/October edition of Journal of Singing, the official publication of the National Association of the Teachers of Singing, Inc (NATS).

Gonzales to perform in Guest Young Artist Recital
The division of music in the School of Fine Arts at Ouachita Baptist University will host Rayanne Gonzales, soprano, in a Guest Young Artist Recital on Tuesday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the McBeth Recital Hall of Mabee Fine Arts Center.

Hewell receives doctorate
Dr. Rob Hewell, assistant professor of music and chair of the department of church music, recently received a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Wilkins wins Virginia Queen Piano Competition
Marcilee Wilkins of Hot Springs won first place in the 30th Annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition on Monday, April 16.

Ouachita will dedicate the Rachel Fuller and Ouachita Singers Memorial Amphitheatre
Ouachita will dedicate the Rachel Fuller and Ouachita Singers Memorial Amphitheatre on Tuesday, April 10 at 10 a.m. The outdoor amphitheatre, which is located directly in front of McClellan Hall, serves as a permanent tribute to the 25 students, faculty and family members who were involved in the 1999 crash of American Airlines Flight 1420.

Wehr to perform in honor of thirtieth annual Virginia Queen competition
The division of music in the school of fine arts will host the thirtieth annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition on Monday, April 16 beginning at 3 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center.

Band students honor Hamilton with commission
Members of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma premiered a commissioned composition in honor of Dr. Craig Hamilton as a surprise at the end of the Ouachita Wind Ensemble concert on March 8.

Secrest named to Who’s Who
Dr. Glenda Secrest, associate professor of music, was recently selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in the World, which will be published in November 2007.

Garner to deliver lecture at William Carey University
Dr. Stephen Garner, assistant professor of music, will deliver a lecture at William Carey University (WCU) on March 20.

Students named finalists, semi-finalists in Arkansas NATS auditions
Ten Ouachita students were named finalists and 21 were semi-finalists in the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions, held February 23-24 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

OBU Saxophone Students to Perform in Texas
Ten members of the Ouachita Baptist University Saxophone Studio have been selected to perform at the Region IV Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance.

Marcilee Wilkins of Hot Springs was named the state winner in the National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Auditions on Saturday, February 17 at Henderson State University.

Woodburn receives awards for Arkansas district MET audition
Senior Valerie Woodburn was one of three singers who received awards at the Arkansas District Metropolitan Opera auditions, held recently at the Wildwood Center for Performing Arts in Little Rock.

Ray is selected for Music Academy of the West 2007 Summer School
Stephen Ray of Sherwood, a senior music major, was recently selected as one of 22 singers to participate in the Music Academy of the West 2007 Summer School and Festival in Santa Barbara, California.

Students win awards during Ouachita Concerto Competition
Grace Borgan, a senior instrumental performance and Spanish major, earned first place in the university’s first Ouachita Concerto Competition last week.

Thirty students earn honors for NATS auditions
Six Ouachita students were named finalists in the 2006 Southern Region NATS auditions, held November 10-11 at Henderson. Twenty-five Ouachita students were named semi-finalists in the NATS auditions.

Houlihan represents Ouachita at technology conference
Dr. Patrick Houlihan, professor of music, recently attended a conference titled “Elevating Education with Educator” at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dr. Craig Hamilton has been invited to be a guest conductor for the West Michigan Concert WINDS during the opening of their 2006-2007 concert season series.

The division of music will host Dr. Robert Brewer, tuba, in a Guest Artist Recital on Tuesday October 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the McBeth Recital Hall of Mabee Fine Arts Center.

Ouachita hosts Beard and Vigneau in Guest Artist Recital
The division of music will host Dr. Christine Erlander Beard, flute, and Dr. Michelle Vigneau, oboe, in a Guest Artist Recital on Monday October 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the McBeth Recital Hall of Mabee Fine Arts Center.

AETN will feature Dr. Francis McBeth in documentary series
The program will air five times on AETN during the month of September.

Taylor to perform for national conference of College Music Society
Dr. Caroline Taylor, professor of music, has been invited to perform at the 2006 National Conference of the College Music Society.
