Mrs. Mary Worthen Mary Worthen is a native of Duncan Oklahoma. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She holds the Master of Music Education degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. In addition she has studied at the Kodaly Musical Training Institute, Hartt School of Music, at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut, and is certified in the Kodaly and Orff methods of music education. Mrs. Worthen taught at Ouachita Baptist University as Assistant Professor of Music from 1983-1992, teaching applied voice and Aural Skills. After relocating to Springfield, Missouri, she held positions in the theory department at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, and taught applied voice at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. She rejoined the OBU faculty in the Fall of 2001 as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music after serving as Director of Choral Activities at South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, Arkansas. While there, her choirs performed Vivaldi's Gloria and Brahms' Requiem. She was the guest clinician for the All Region SSA High School Choir (Southwest Region) in the fall of 2001 and continues to be in frequent demand for public school clinics. As a professional educator, Mrs. Worthen belongs to the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is a member of of the music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, and Phi Kappa Lambda. She resides in El Dorado, Arkansas with her husband Lynn, who pastors First Baptist Church of El Dorado.
