Win Over No. 3 BYU-Hawaii Propels Tigers to No. 9 Ranking

ARKADELPHIA – Thanks to a 5-4 victory over then No. 3 BYU-Hawaii, the Ouachita Tiger tennis team has moved up to No. 9 in the nation in NCAA Division II men’s tennis in the most recent ITA/College Tennis Online national rankings.

The Tigers, who are preparing for the Gulf South Conference championships this weekend in Valdosta, Georgia, are also trying to reach the NCAA tournament once again.

In the match against BYU-Hawaii, the Tigers won two of three doubles matches and then went up 3-1 when Alejandro Chong handily defeated Darrin Porter in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2 to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.  Ouachita then got singles wins from Emilien Rabin and Joan Costa in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively to seal the win.
"Our goal is to work hard and try to improve throughout the season. This win should boost our confidence going into the conference and regional tournaments."

No. 15 Tigers Kick Things Off With Two Wins

               
ARKADELPHIA – The 15th-ranked Ouachita Tiger tennis team got into the swing of things in the 2004 season with a 9-0 win over No. 38 Delta State and an 8-1 win over No. 38 Midwestern (TX) State over the weekend at the Heflin Tennis Center on the Ouachita campus.
                Ouachita (2-0) opened the season with the victory over fellow Gulf South Conference member DSU and then handed Lone Star Conference member an 8-1 loss.  The only win for the Indians came in one singles match that went to a tie-breaker.
                The Tigers will return to action on Thursday, February 12, when they host Tyler Junior College at the Heflin Tennis Center.  Complete match results from both matches are below:
