Ouachita Memories: There are so many
memories that I have at Ouachita. My first and foremost is the incredible
opportunity I had to develop a
lasting relationship with a coach who not only strove for excellence
in the game of tennis but also put the primary value and premium on every
player who walked on the court. It is true that all of the memories and
all of the wonderful times could not have been realized without the integrity
and dedication of Coach Ward. Even now, years later, it is a great testament
of Craig’s passion that this web site exists, he truly wants to
know the state of every one of his players. Secondly, are the memories of the comraderie and unity of a wonderful group of teamates: Marc, Guy, Mike, Patrik, Christian, Tim, Cristofer, Robert, Johnathon, and Erik. As I look over these pages, and travel throughout my days the memories of a face brings a great smile and laugh. I truly think that many of my current friends, know the guys I played with as well as I do. I will forever cherish the unity, discipline, pursuit, and love that we experienced. I am a different person because of my times at this program and with these men. Miscellaneous Memories Sports Center Antedotes: It was always quite funny for me to hear the Sports Center Favorite Quotes with a European flavor, “He’s on fire”, “Nothin but the bottom of the net, BaM!” Study hall with the guys was a great experience/ The moments of complete quiet followed hourly with a game of paper basketball. Player Profile Memories Cristofer- Always with a Diet Coke nearby as he did incessant pushups wearing blue jeans and no shirt. Robert- What Incredible passion/ his determination at nationals is a highlight/ Also, I always admired his desire to ride with the opposing teams in their vans after matches Patrik- The smoothness, O so smooth on and off the court/ But, there was always the presence of a small nagging injury Tim- Who has more Incredible outdoor adventures?/ He was always coming to practice with a new biking injury/ There was the ever present bandana/ I have never seen a more aggressive player at the doubles net Christian- The world and surroundings were always a continual philosophical excerpt/ and keynote statements, “ I mean you’ve got to be kidding.” I still say “I mean” to this day/ I bet everyone else does to/ It seemed that you always wanted to sit and hear his stories Guy Barr- The relentlessness Warrior/ I have never seen another 215 lb cross-country runner Mike- How can anyone but Mike make sense of three televisions at a time/ How was it that he could play three hours of tennis with the part in his hair still perfect? Jonathon- Always with a great smile and great attitude/ But he had the uncanny ability to physically assault everyone on the team Marc- What a show-stopping, fear causing, precisely accurate, overhead/ It never mattered how well Marc was playing a match or the score you knew when the ball went in the air in his direction it was coming back with authority Erik- The KORN T-shirt I will never forget especially the way Cristofer pronounced the name/ Even with the t-shirt, he still had a wonderful ability to display great tenacity. I will never forget our preparations for the national tournament and the huge storm that took place at the Heflin’s lake house in Hot Springs, we were a great family. These are the memories that will last forever with my time at Ouachita Tennis. I believe it was the first place I learned what it was to be part of a team: to take in all of the attributes of each individual and to strive for a goal as a forceful, cohesive unit, what a great privilege! Thanks Coach, team, and all of the other OBU Alumni, we are part of a common family. May we continue to enrich and renew our lives together with a common purpose and pursuit. |
