Practical Experience

The mass communications department at Ouachita Baptist University offers students a number of different areas to gain practical experience.

Signal-

The Signal is a weekly student publication that strives to inform and entertain the student body. The staff reports on current event on campus, topics important to students, and opinions held by students and staff. Each issue includes artwork, photography and graphs pertaining to the stories. The main goal is to serve the students, faculty, and staff with an accurate display of the news, opinions, entertainment and sports within Ouachita's bubble.

Television Productions-

Ouachita students assist in the production of several television, cable and video productions. Their responsibilities range from producer and director to camera operator and editor. Students enrolled in Practicum also help and receive credit for their service.

Some of the productions include "Ouachita" which is a monthly program that can be see in different areas throughout the region. Another show available throughout Arkansas is the Todd Knight Show (coach of the Ouachita Tigers) which airs weekly during football season.

Ouachitonian-

The Ouachitonian, the yearbook of Ouachita Baptist University, has served the students, faculty and staff of OBU for the past century. The book is created and produced entirely by students, with faculty advisement and is distributed to the students in late August at no charge.

The purpose of the Ouachitonian is to produce a quality yearbook that combines pictures and effective writing to capture the uniqueness of each year. Through their hard work this publication has won numerous awards.

Photography Lab-

The Photography Lab provides photos to the Ouachitonian, Signal, and other campus publications by digitally recording the history of each year. It is a student run office which provides for a fun learning environment.
