How does Mass Communications fit in with the core curriculum?

Do you really get hands-on experience that will help you in the future?

~Through classes such as advertising/PR campaigns and advanced television productions, the mass communications department provides a wide range of classes that allows students to get out from behind a desk and learn how to apply their field of study to the real world. Students can also learn the ins and outs of creating a weekly print and online newspaper, developing the school's yearbook, producing a campus television show or the art of photography through work study and practicum opportunities. Whether it is competing in regional advertising competitions or providing press releases for local and state newspapers, students studying mass communications at Ouachita graduate fully prepared for the future that lies ahead.~ Kristin Hare, Alumni

 

What kind of computer facilities does the department have?

~ We have an 18 seat, state of the art, Macintosh lab which includes the latest industry standard software for print and online design plus several non- linear video editing work stations.~ Lannie Byrd, Instructor

What if I have an interest that is not covered by the curriculum?

~ The mass communications department is willing to work with anyone that has interests that are not covered in the curriculum. I have had the opportunity to have an independent study class where I was able to read books and meet with a teacher one on one to discuss each book and pull out the major ideas which would further help me in the mass communications field.~ Karen Thornton, Alumni
