The Sloan House was built in 1893 by Charles K. Boswell. Later the home
was bought by Lizzie S. Moore for $4750 in 1895 from Boswell so her children
could attend Ouachita Baptist University. The family home was owned by
Moore's granddaughter, Elizabeth Sloan Housley, who remodeled the building
in the 1940s and opened it to renters. The Victorian style home came to be
known over the years to Arkadelphians as the "Embassy." In July of 1990,
ownership transferred to Ouachita Baptist University who razed the structure
to build Jones Performing Arts Center. This collection was rescued from the
attic of the home just before it was torn down.
