into a wide variety of topicsthe Great Depression, World War II, the
timber industry, race relations, rural family life, religion, education,
and farming, just to name a few. These oral histories are particularly useful
as a means of supplementing the written record and supplying information
not found in newspapers, official documents, and correspondence.
