The Charles
Russell McDaniel Collection, approximately one linear foot of materials,
consists of the Moore family papers dating 1850 -1955 The family
history began with the marriage of John Blakely, Jr. (1789-1818) to
Kizziah Holcomb (1793-1876) in Laurens County, South Carolina in 1810.
Blakely died in Franklin County, Tennessee in December 1818, which is
reflected by receipts for his medical bills and coffin, leaving Kizziah
with three children. Around 1820 she married Wiseman Moore and they
moved to Blount County, Alabama, where they lived until 1838. They
later moved to McNairy County, Tennessee before settling in Clark
County, Arkansas in 1851.
The family papers passed to Wiseman’s son, James A. Moore; to James’s
son-Dr. Newton L. Moore (1859-1930)to Newton’s sister Eula Moore
Honssinger, to Eula’s niece, Vernon Moore Shambarger (female), and then
to Charles Russell McDaniel, who donated them to Special Collections at
Ouachita Baptist University. The collections consist primarily of
ledgers, receipts, tax documents, legal documents, and other personal
documents. It is cross-referenced with a Small Manuscript Collection
#103 about the Wiseman Moore family and a Clark County Subject file on
the Moore family.
