University of Al Akhawayn

Ifrane, Morocco

  

The Program:     

     Ouachita offers an exotic study program in the North African country of Morocco.  Al Akhawayn University is located in the beautiful mountain resort town of Ifrane.  Students may choose such courses as Arabic language and culture, art, literature, philosophy, international business, and more.

 

The Setting:

     Morocco is located in North Africa, and abounds in Arab, Spanish, and African cultures.  The North African location situates the country in proximity to the rest of Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe, offering to students a gateway to travel to those destinations.     

     Al Akhawayn University is located in the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains.  The mountains contribute to the pleasant climate associated with this study setting.  The campus is well manicured and the "Swiss Chalet" style of architecture in the dormitories and academic buildings gives this campus a breathtaking.

 

Financial Aid:

     Since Ouachita and Al Akhawayn University have an exchange agreement, Ouachita students selected to study at Al Akhawayn University pay Ouachita tuition, room, and board.  This allows Ouachita students to utilize 100% of their financial aid, except work-study aid.  The costs do not include round-trip air fare, travel expenses, or personal expenses.

Requirements:

  • Second semester freshman classification at the time of selection
  • A minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Good standing with the University
  • Written approval from the Dean of the school of the student's major

Application:

     The application deadline for study during a fall semester is March 1.  For study during a spring semester, the deadline is October 1.  Summer programs are also available.

Obtaining A Visa:

MOROCCO - *Valid passport required.  Visa not required for stays up to 3 months.  For visits of more than 90 days, apply for an extension (with a valid reason for the extension of stay).  Travelers who plan to reside in Morocco must obtain a residence permit.  A residence permit may be requested and obtained from immigration authorities at the central police station of the district of residence.  For additional information, consult the Embassy of Morocco, 1821 Jefferson Pl., NW, Washington, DC 20036 (202/462-7727) or Consulate General in New York (212/758-2625).
