The Program:
Each Summer, a group of students from several Baptist-related
colleges study at Beijing University.
This five-week program, usually conducted from mid-May to mid-June,
allows these students to participate in classes taught by some of
the foremost professors in the world. The program also allows
American students to interact with their Chinese peers and build
lasting friendships.
Students participating in the study program receive
a total of seven (6) hours credit. Four (3) hours in Chinese
language, three (3) hours in Chinese culture. Final grading is determined
by Beijing University professors assigned to the courses.

Students and faculty will have the opportunity to experience the
rich and ancient history of China by visiting many famous sites.
These include; the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square,
the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Ming Tombs, the Beijing
Zoo, and the famous terracotta warriors in the ancient capital of
Xian.
On the train trip to Xian in central China, students and professors
have a
chance to view the Chinese countryside with its small villages and
vast landscapes. It is truly an enriching experience.
Ouachita has been sending faculty and students to study and teach
in China since 1986. Today, Ouachita holds a special relationship
with Beijing University. Located in the capital city, Beijing
University is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities
in China, as well as one of the world's best institutions of higher
learning. Established in 1898, Beijing University students
are the intellectual elite of China and professors are among the
finest in their fields.
The Setting:



Financial Aid (and cost) :
The cost for the five-week program in China varies according to
tuition and economic factors. However, the cost, which will
be confirmed by the application deadline, includes: round-trip
airfare, ground travel, room (hotel), meals, trip to Xian, and three-day
orientation. A deposit of 10% of the cost
of the trip of deposit will be required with your application. The
remaining balance is due thirty days prior to departure. The anticipated cost as of January 2006 is $2,500 excluding meals which are estimated to be about $10 per day.

Requirements:
- Second semester freshman classification at the time of application
- Good standing with the University
- Written approval from the Dean of the school of the student's major
Application:
The application deadline is the last
day of pre-registration
in the fall. Applications must include a
deposit of 10% of the
total cost of the trip.

Obtaining a Visa:
CHINA, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF - *Passport and visa required. Due to tightened visa policy, travelers may be required to undergo a personal interview. Transit visa required for any stop (even if you do not exit the plane or train) in China. Business travelers are required to obtain formal invitation from their Chinese business contact. Tourist visas are issued only after receipt of a confirmation letter from a Chinese tour agency or letter of invitation from a relative in China. Single-entry visa requires $50 processing fee, double-entry visa fee $75 (no personal checks). A multiple-entry visa requires $100 for a 6-month visa, and $150 for a 12-24 month visa. 1 tourist visa application form, and 1 photo required. Allow at least 4 business days for processing. Visa valid 90 days from date of issue. If applicant is HIV positive, entry not permitted for any purpose.
