Peking University

     Each Summer, a group of students from several Baptist-related colleges study at Peking University. This five-week program, usually conducted from mid-May to mid-June, allows these students to participate in classes taught by some of the foremost professors in the world.  The program also allows American students to interact with their Chinese peers and build lasting friendships.

     Students and faculty will have the opportunity to experience the rich and ancient history of China by visiting many famous sites.  These include; the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Ming Tombs, the Beijing Zoo, and the famous terracotta warriors in the ancient capital of Xian. 

     On the train trip to Xian in central China, students and professors have a chance to view the Chinese countryside with its small villages and vast landscapes.  It is truly an enriching experience. 

      Ouachita has been sending faculty and students to study and teach in China since 1986.  Today, Ouachita holds a special relationship with Peking University.  Located in the capital city, Peking University is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in China, as well as one of the world's best institutions of higher learning.  Established in 1898, Peking University students are the intellectual elite of China and professors are among the finest in their fields.

The Setting:

 

Financial Aid (and cost) :

     The cost for the five-week program in China varies according to tuition and economic factors.  However, the cost, which will be confirmed by the application deadline,  includes: round-trip airfare, ground travel, room (hotel), meals, trip to Xian, and three-day orientation. A deposit of 10% of the cost of the trip will be required with your application.  The remaining balance is due thirty days prior to departure. 

Payment Schedule:      Students selected to participate must adhere to the following payment schedule:      10% of cost  due at time of application      25%   Due by February 15      25%   Due by March 15      25%   Due by April 15      15%   Due by May 1

 

Requirements: Second semester freshman classification at the time of application A minimum of a 2.5 GPA Good standing with the University Written approval from the Dean of the school of the student's major Application:       The application deadline is the last day of pre-registration in the fall.  Applications must include a deposit of 10% of the total cost of the trip.      For more information on Peking University please visit http://en.pku.edu.cn
