European Study Tour
(May 13 to June 1, 2012)
The Program
In late May and early June, two Ouachita faculty members lead a three-week study tour to western Europe. The trip focuses on sites of significant historical, cultural and intellectual importance in the development of Western traditions.
The group will have a wide range of experiences including tours of museums and galleries, visits to palaces, churches and ancient ruins, as well as possible attendance at dramatic and musical performances.
Students selected must participate in a preparation course, requiring one hour per week for meeting, and outside preparatory assignments to be determined by the leading faculty.
Upon completion of the trip and required assignments, a student may receive six hours of academic credit. Three hours will be Humanities credit and three will be junior/senior elective credit.

Requirements
- Second semester freshman classification at the time of selection
- 2.5 GPA
- Good standing with the University
- Satisfactory references on the application
- Good health and an ability to walk and carry your own luggage
- Good attitude and an ability to get along with a group
- The financial resources to pay for the trip as there is no scholarship money available
Application
The application deadline will be October 1 in the fall semester prior to the trip. Applications must include a non-refundable study abroad application fee of $200 & a refundable deposit of 10% of the total cost of the trip–$620. (The estimate cost for 2012 is $6,200).
Costs and Payment
The costs for the course varies from year to year, but includes round-trip air fare, accommodations, entry fees, ground transportation, and breakfast meals. Lunches and dinners are not included in the cost of the trip.
Students selected to participate must adhere to the following payment schedule:
10% of cost due at time of your application is approved $620
25% Due by November 15 -$1,500
25% Due by January 15 –$1,500
25% Due by February 15 –$1,500
15% Due by March 15 –$1,080
