Below are several scholarship and grants that are not awarded by Ouachita but are available to Ouachita students.  You must apply for these scholarships independently.

Free Scholarship Searches

We have also provided additional web sites for you which contain valuable scholarship and financial aid information.Private scholarship searches require patience and persistence on the part of the family (along with getting an early start). These searches are free of charge. Please do not pursue scholarship searches which require a fee for processing your application information!

Arkansas Baptist Foundation Administered Scholarships

Hammons Charitable Foundation Scholarship Program

Scholarships are available for students from eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee who will be Freshmen or Sophomores at Ouachita.  Preference to active members of a Southern Baptist Church and must have a 2.0 or higher GPA.  Applications are available athttp://www.abf.org/scholarships.html. The deadline to apply is February 1st of each year.

Grace Fellowship Scholarship

Available for an orphaned or  abandoned and neglected student/ prospective student at Ouachita Baptist University who is preparing for a Christian vocation. The student or prospective student must have already acquired a GED or high school diploma and must also show evidence of a need for financial assistance. http://www.abf.org/scholarships.html

Mandy Coats Scholarship

Individuals may apply for this scholarship needing financial assistance in attending the college, university, or seminary of their choice.  Preference will be given to student-athletes who are active members of evangelical Christian churches and who show promise of becoming outstanding Christian citizens in society. http://www.abf.org/scholarships.html

Medical Missions Scholarship

Arkansas Baptists may apply for a scholarship to attend college, seminary, or medical school if they are preparing for Southern Baptist medical missionary service. http://www.abf.org/scholarships.html

Nancy Cooper Scholarship

Applicants should be committed to a career in missions or to vocational Christian ministry, must be an active member of a Southern Baptist church in Arkansas, and have completed one year of college with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Preference shall be given to women applicants.Established by the Woman’s Missionary Union to honor Dr. Nancy Cooper, Executive Secretary of the Arkansas W.M.U. for twenty-five years. Powell-Duffell Scholarship

Applicants must be preparing for vocational Christian ministry, must be an active member of a church affiliated with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, and must be classified as a sophomore or junior.  Applications and reference forms are available at http://www.abf.org/scholarships.html.  The deadline for application is March 1st.

Pryor Scholarship

Arkansas Baptists may apply for this scholarship related to educational expenses for those studying in religious education and/or music in order to serve in international or home mission work of the Southern Baptist Convention.  For more information, please contact Vera Clancy at vclancy@absc.org.

Red River Baptist Association Seminary Scholarships

Suttle Seminary Scholarships

Pastoral Ministry Scholarship

This scholarship which was established by the Arkansas Baptist Convention provides $825-$1650 per semester to male students who are preparing for preaching or pastoral ministry and have been licensed by a Southern Baptist Church and who meet certain basic requirements.  The student’s church must contribute $125 per semester toward the total.  The amount received under this program is repayable only if the recipient ceases to pursue the ministry.  For additional information, see the Pruet School of Christian Studies webpage at www.obu.edu/christianstudies.

Todd McCord Ministerial Scholarship

The Todd McCord Ministerial Scholarship is for students who are majoring in Christian Ministries and have publicly committed themselves to God’s call to the Gospel Ministry. They must have a desire to combine a passion for evangelism and a love for the outdoors to reach people for Christ. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarship program for transfer students from community colleges

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program each year awards approximately 50 scholarships to students attending community colleges or two-year institutions in the US and planning to transfer to four-year institutions.  The application deadline is February 1st.  For more information and an application you may visit the website featuring the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship.

R. Preston Woodruff, Jr. Scholarship

The Arkansas Student Loan Authority will give away twenty $1000 scholarships each year to high school seniors in Arkansas. Each year, one of the twenty scholarships drawn will be renewable for 4 years! Click here for more information.

W.P. Sturgis Scholarships

These are provided to Arkansas residents by the Sturgis Foundation based on satisfactory academic performance and financial need.  Information and application forms can be obtained by calling 870-246-6514.

Hale-Moore Education Fund

Scholarships awarded to students who are active Christians, involved in a church and community.  Recipients may be selected on the basis of need, merit, or both.  Consideration will be given to students in a “middle income” bracket who thus do not qualify for financial assistance available to low income students.  You may download additional information, as well as an application.  The application deadline is June 30th.

AASFAA Scholarship Application

The Arkansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (AASFAA) will award two $500 scholarships to Arkansas students. Application deadline April 15.  You may download an application at http://www.aasfaa.net/studentsparents/scholarship2.aspx

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. National Merit Scholarships

$250 to $2,000 scholarships available based on PSAT/NMSQT.  Selection is made by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Bureau of Indian Affairs

Students classified as at least one-quarter Indian blood descendant may be eligible for a higher education grant through the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  Students should contact the Bureau in which they are registered/affiliated. http://www.bie.edu/

Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits

Educational benefits may be available to students with physical disabilities which interfere with their ability to pursue a gainful occupation or which threaten continued employment. Applications and required supplemental forms are submitted to the local Vocational Rehabilitation Office. Ouachita also has a contact person available to assist with paperwork and questions related to VA benefits.

Veterans Administration Benefits

Veterans of recent military service, widows or children of military personnel who lost their lives in service or who are totally disabled as a result of service, may qualify for Veterans Administration educational benefits.  Those who are eligible should contact the nearest VA Regional Office for assistance in securing benefits.  Information on campus regarding this program may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar.  Applicants and current students may contact Bill McCrary, mccraryb@obu.edu, for assistance.

The Montgomery G.I. Bill (Active Duty)

This is a program of education benefits for students who entered active duty for the first time after June 30, 1985. The student must, with certain exceptions, serve continuously on active duty for three years of a three-year enlistment or, for a lesser benefit, two years of an initial active duty obligation of less than three years. A student also may qualify for benefits by initially serving two continuous years on active duty, followed by four years of Selected Reserve service.

Montgomery G.I. Bill (Selected Reserve)

This is a program of education benefits for Reservists of the armed forces as well as the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. To be eligible for this program, a reservist must have a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve, complete Initial Active Duty for Training, have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and remain in good standing in a drilling Selected Reserve unit.
