2008-2009 Ouachita Institutional Aid

Students will be considered for the following group of scholarships, grants, and discounts based on the student’s acceptance to the University prior to January 15th of their entering year at Ouachita.  These scholarships are awarded for a maximum of 8 semesters.  Departmental and School-specific scholarships are awarded by committee and are highly competitive.

(Please note: All programs listed below are for the 2008-2009 award year.)

Trustee Scholarship – Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar

  • Tuition, Fees, Room and Board (includes funds from the state)
  • Must be an Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar to qualify
  • 3.25 cumulative GPA to maintain

Trustee Scholarship – National Merit Semi-finalist and Finalist

  • Total OBU aid package amounts to full Tuition per year
  • Offered to any National Merit Semi-Finalist and Finalist
  • 3.25 cumulative GPA to maintain

Presidential Scholarship

  • Total OBU aid package amounts to full Tuition per year
  • One awarded in each school of study based on outstanding achievement
  • 3.25 cumulative GPA to maintain

Ouachita Scholars Scholarship

(awarded to incoming first-time freshmen)

  • Awarded based on combination of HS GPA and ACT/SAT score
  • $10,000/year University Scholar Scholarship
  • $8,000/year Dean’s Scholar Scholarship
  • $6,000/year Founder’s Scholar Scholarship
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA required to maintain each semester

Ouachita Collegiate Award

(awarded to incoming first-time freshmen)

  • Awarded based on combination of HS GPA and ACT/SAT score
  • $4,500/year Achievement Award
  • $3,500/year Opportunity Award
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA required to maintain

Transfer Student Scholarship

  • $3,000 per year available with a transfer GPA between 2.0 and 2.49
  • $5,000 per year available with a tranfer GPA between 2.5 and 3.49
  • $7,000 per year available with a tranfer GPA above 3.5
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA required to maintain

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship for Transfers

  • $2,000 per year for 2 years
  • Earned Associates Degree required
  • Membership in Phi Theta Kappa required
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA required to maintain
  • Only 5 scholarships on campus at any given time

Southern Baptist Church Matching Grant

  • Up to $250 matched by Ouachita per year
  • Original scholarship must come from any Southern Baptist Church

Minister's Child and Spouse Award

  • $1,000 per year
  • Available to dependent children and wives of active, retired, or deceased full-time ministers in Southern Baptist Churches and current associational missionaries, as well as dependents of chaplains endorsed by the NAMB of the Southern Baptist Convention and employees of the Arkansas Baptist Convention in positions that require approval by the Executive Board
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Children of Foreign Missionaries Award

  • $2,500 per year (along with additional $1,000 per year for Minister's Child Award)
  • Available to dependent students of current or former International Mission Board missionaries who are eligible for the Post-Secondary Education Allowance from the IMB
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Departmental and School-specific Scholarship

  • Various amounts per year
  • Awarded according to stipulations put forth by the donor
  • University Scholarship Committee and individual Deans are responsible for awarding
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Legacy Award

  • $1,000 per year
  • Awarded to students who have at least one parent who attended Ouachita
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Acteen  Scholarship

  • $200 to $550 per year based on level achieved
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA required to maintain

The following scholarships, grants and discounts are awarded to students through various application processes or auditions with the appropriate program directors.  These scholarships, grants, and discounts are  awarded for a maximum eight semesters as well.

 

Tiger Network Scholarship 

  • $500 per year
  • Must be recommended by a Tiger Network member
  • Applications can be obtained through Tiger Network members
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Associational Scholarship 

  • $250 per year
  • One awarded for each association in the Arkansas Baptist State Convention
  • Applications can be obtained from associational offices
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

 

Band Scholarship

  • Up to $2,000 per year
  • Awarded based on performance
  • Must make appointment with Director of Bands for an audition
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Music Scholarship

  • Up to $5,000 per year
  • Awarded based on performance in piano, organ, voice, or stringed instruments
  • Must make appointment with the Dean of the School of Music for an audition 
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain 

Athletic Scholarship  

  • Up to tuition, fees, room and board per year  
  • Offered in baseball, men and women's basketball,  women's cross country, football, golf, men and women's soccer, softball, men and women's swimming, men and women's tennis, and volleyball
  • Individual coaches can be contacted by calling the Athletic Department at (870) 245-5181

Baptist Children's Home Award

  • Up to tuition, fees, room and board when combined with any federal aid for which the student is eligible
  • Awarded to students who are dependents of the Arkansas Baptist Children's Home 
  • Letter of support from the Director of the Arkansas Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries must be submitted to Office of Financial Aid for verification of eligibility
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

International Study Scholarship

  • Funding available for students interested in pursuing an international study program approved by the University
  • The Director of International Programs should be contacted for additional information

Youth Speaker's Scholarship

  • $400 to $600 (one year only)
  • Awarded to winners and runner's up of the tournament sponsored by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention
  • Notification from the Convention needs to be sent to Office of Financial Aid

Trio Program Scholarship

  • $1,000 per year
  • Awarded to outstanding participants in the TRIO program each year
  • Applications can be found in the Trio Programs Office
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain

Thea Scholarship

  • 1st place winners in the Visual and Performing Arts Competitions will receive $14,000 ($3,500 per year for 4 years)
  • 2nd place winners receive $1,000 ($250 per year for 4 years)
