Non-credit courses

One of the goals of the Elrod Center is to promote non-credit courses that will benefit the community. One such course the center offers is called Introducing Parents to Children's Literature. The purpose of the course is to offer an overview of children's literature to young parents; however, grandparents and those with grown up children are also invited to participate. The course provides suggestions and guidance and encourages child development through reading. It moves beyond the offering of a balanced reading list to providing insights into the resources and types of reading materials available to parents.

Another non-credit course that the Elrod Center offers to senior adults in the community is a creative writing class. Sponsored by the ElderServe program, this course provides seniors with the tools to begin to reflect on and record their past, preserving their own life experiences so they can share them with family and friends. A wonderful sense of community is also formed within the group as the individuals share these memories.
