Greetings from the new chair of the Ouachita Baptist University Department of Education!

It is an honor to join this great university’s administration, faculty, and staff in positively impacting the lives of our students to become all God has created them to be and to do.  Although I am new here, I am not new to education.  I have had the opportunity to serve as a classroom teacher in the elementary, middle, high school, and collegiate levels.  More recently, I have served as principal of Evangel Christian Academy and superintendent of schools of Bloomburg ISD in Texas. I will be serving not only as Chair of the OBU Department of Education, but will also be the Director of Student Teaching Internships, The Wetherington Center Director, and teach a few classes.

The vision of OBU teacher education is “to equip and empower our candidates to become master teachers.”  We see ourselves and our task as part of a larger mission to change the lives of people through learning and serving as Jesus, the master teacher of all time did. To this end, the mission of the Michael D. Huckabee School of Education and the Education Department is to “provide the curriculum and the environment that will prepare future teachers who are student-centered and see teaching as a ministry; possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for being effective in diverse classrooms; and are life-long learners involved in their disciplines and professional development.”

We have an outstanding faculty, performance-based curriculum, internet connected classrooms, and strong partnerships with local schools. We invite you to come and look inside our classrooms where you will see our students listening, explaining, reflecting, and learning. Our future teachers are full of energy, dedicated to excellence,  and have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.

We know that Ouachita Baptist University is a special place. We invite you to get to know us better. You will want to meet with professors, explore the classrooms and labs, sit in on a class session and talk to some of our current students.  Should you have any unanswered questions, feel free to call my office at (870) 245-5153. If you have questions or want to set up a visit, please contact the Ouachita Baptist University Admissions Office or go directly to our website at www. Obu.edu. We appreciate your interest in the Department of Education.

May God richly bless you and yours,

Dr. Linda Ruth Bass
