- In 2004, Donna was chosen to be the Arkansas Teacher of the Year. As part of this honor, she spent several weeks attending workshops and leadership activities with the top teachers in the United States and even enjoyed time with the president and Mrs. George W. Bush in Washington, D.C.
- Donna received her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in 2002. She is one of 300 teachers in Arkansas to receive this certification.
- Donna has been a kindergarten and elementary school teacher for 26 years and has been in the Arkadelphia public schools for 21 years. Dona says, “I enjoy being in the classroom just as much today as I did when I first began teaching.”
Why she is glad she went to Ouachita:
- Donna says she never really enjoyed school before coming to Ouachita. That certainly changed! She was so impressed by the teachers—their caring, their commitment and their creativity.
- Donna appreciated the ways that Ouachita builds strong character and teaches impressive moral values. She says that the education professors took time to teach their students how to truly care for their future classrooms.
