OTHER NEWS :

ALUMNI BANQUETS - The Pruet School of Christian Studies organized two alumni banquets this year for alumni who majored in Christian Studies, Religion, or Philosophy. These were fun, informal gatherings in which faculty and former students hung out together for an evening, shared a good meal and caught up on events in each other’s lives. The first banquet was on April 4 in the Dallas area (Prestonwood Baptist Church) and the second banquet was on April 11 in Little Rock (Park Hill Baptist Church).

EUROPEAN STUDIES TRIP - Dr. Terry Carter, Kathy Carter, and Dr. Barbara Pemberton led the European Studies trip this May.

BIBLICAL STUDIES TRIP TO ISRAEL - In June Dr. Scott Duvall and Dr. Danny Hays (along with their wives, Judy and Donna) led the Biblical Studies trip to the Holy Land. Twenty-nine students enrolled in this two-week trip that offers six hours of credit in Biblical Studies.  Dr. Duvall and Dr. Hays taught the class “Life of Christ” on location and also visited numerous significant archaeological sites throughout Israel, Jordan and Palestine.

NEW RELEASE - In February, 2008, Zondervan released the new book Journey into God’s Word: Your Guide to Understanding and Applying the Bible, by J. Scott Duvall and J. Daniel Hays. This book is an abridgment of Grasping God’s Word and is targeted for church use and youth groups.

HANDS-ON AFRICA PROGRAM - Beginning with the Fall 2008 semester, students at Ouachita Baptist University can earn up to twelve hours of course credit while participating in the Hands On Africa semester missions program. Hands On Africa is a four– to five-month tour of mission service in sub-Saharan Africa offered to qualified students by the International Mission Board, SBC. Students will serve in teams of four as semester missionaries working alongside experienced field supervisors. Their duties will include evangelism, discipleship, and holistic ministry.

In conjunction with this program, Ouachita Baptist University will offer 12 hours of Missions/Christian Ministries credit.  Students will pay regular tuition for the semester that they are abroad. The price the IMB charges for the entire experience (including air fare) is roughly equivalent to a semester of room and board at OBU. Thus students can take advantage of this opportunity and spend a semester working with the IMB abroad for the same price as a semester at OBU.

The IMB has also indicated that they will soon expand this program to other parts of the world. We are extremely excited about this program and what it offers to our students.
