Scholarship/Financial Aid Information
2013-2014
General Information
The first and most important step for any student seeking financial aid is to apply for admission to the University. An application for admission will also serve as an application for most OBU scholarships. Likewise, to be eligible for most scholarships, the student (and their parents) must have submitted the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov). Contact Student Financial Services office for more information regarding the FAFSA. Notification of all scholarship awards will be made by Student Financial Services through the mail. Students may also view aid information through their OBU web portal account at info.obu.edu.

Pruet School of Christian Studies—endowed scholarships for incoming freshmen
OBU has a number of endowed scholarships that are designated for students majoring in Christian Studies. These scholarships generally fall in the range of $250 to $3000/yr. for four years. These scholarships are awarded by Student Financial Services and are based primarily on need and/or merit. All incoming freshmen who are majoring in Christian Studies and have submitted the FAFSA will be considered for these scholarships. No specific scholarship application is required other than the FAFSA.
Pruet School scholarships for incoming freshmen
The Pruet School of Christian Studies also offers a small number (usually 5-12) of additional scholarships to incoming freshmen which can be added to the scholarships awarded by Student Financial Services. Most of these are usually $1000 per year (for four years). These scholarships are awarded by the Pruet School of Christian Studies, and they are based primarily on ministry potential (with ministry being defined in a wide sense, including all areas of church ministry, missions, and ministries like Christian camps, etc.). To apply for a PSCS scholarship send an email to Dr. Danny Hays at haysd@obu.edu with the following information: A statement regarding your call to Christian vocation and what kind of ministry you are interested in; a description of your involvement in your local church; a description of any other ministry activities you have participated in; your High School GPA; and your ACT scores. This application must be received by January 30. Awards will be made in early March for the following school year.

If your financial situation has changed recently (creating your need for additional scholarship aid), be sure to mention this and explain your situation. This application must be submitted by April 1. Awards will be made in mid-April for the following school year. Occasionally a few scholarships will be available for the Spring semester. ABSC Pastoral Ministry Scholarships
This scholarship was established by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and provides $825 per semester to male students who are preparing for preaching or pastoral ministry, have been licensed by a Southern Baptist Church, and who also meet certain other basic requirements. The student’s church must contribute $125 per semester, and the ABSC will then add $700 per semester for a total of $825 per semester. The amount received under this program is repayable only if the recipient ceases to pursue the ministry.
