The professional program in Chemistry includes enough work in mathematics, physics, and chemistry to prepare the student adequately for graduate study and to provide the minimum requirements for a career as a professional chemist. The minimum requirements for a B. S. degree are Chemistry, 43 hours; Math 3202 and necessary prerequisites; Physics 2004, 2014; and research*.  A minor must be completed in one of the following: mathematics, physics, computer science, or biology.

Course Study

First Year

First year's total = 32 hrs

Second Year

Second year's total = 34 hrs

Third Year

Third year's total = 31 hrs 

Fourth Year

Fourth year's total = 32 hrs 

*Research requirement can be met by taking Chemistry 4201-4492 for a minimum of one credit hour (three hours laboratory per week for one semester) or by participating in a summer undergraduate research participation program either at Ouachita or at another university or research institute.

**Additional courses in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or Biology must be taken to complete a minor.
