Communicating Across the Curriculum Oral
CACO

Is there a speech requirement in the CORE curriculum?

Although Ouachita clearly understands the importance of being a confident, competent oral communicator in today’s world, we have chosen not to put “Fundamentals of Public Speaking” in the CORE (although you’re welcome to take the course as an elective). Instead, we have developed a program entitled Communicating Across The Curriculum—Oral (which is a companion to the Communicating Across the Curriculum—Writing program). In short, every major has designated a course—required in the major—in which students give a speech/make a presentation. The speech/presentation, which comprises a substantial portion of the grade in that course, allows the student to hone her or his speaking skills within the context of the student’s content area.
