Drafts of Successful Closing Paragraphs
A.
By becoming a
doctor, I realize that I am giving to something that is greater
than myself and with the training I receive, I will be able to
carry out my life-long desire to better the life of others.
However, I also realize that the learning process is
never over just because you get the M.D. title behind your name.
You must maintain your proficiency and strive to learn
more so that you will have the correct diagnosis at the critical
time of need.
B.
Along with a sincere desire to practice medicine, a
strong work ethic, sense of morality, and leadership experience
may serve me well as a physician.
Experiences have truly shaped my life and created the
person I am today. These
experiences have cultivated the seeds first planted many years
ago as I watched my father in his medical endeavors.
I now recognize the medical career as my true vocation
and feel confident in my capacity to participate in such a
distinguished profession.
C.
As I watched Dr. Johnson struggle with that HIV-positive
patient, risking his life to preserve the man’s life, I
understood that he possessed loyalty and integrity. He had a
passion and a talent for sustaining and keeping the quality of
his patient’s life. Despite the fact that he had a terminal
disease, Dr. Johnson did all he could to make this man’s life
better. I want to be a doctor like Dr. Johnson. I possess the
skills, the character, and the passion to do so. Preserving life
and well-being is truly my calling.
D.
Three years prior I traveled to Jamaica to do volunteer
work in some poverty stricken suburbs outside of Montego Bay.
Naked children roamed the streets, most were sickly and
without parents. As
I approached one suburb, I noticed myriad aluminum foil houses
and urbane junk everywhere. Myself, along with a group of others, came to provide
physical and monetary support to the needy children and their
families. Dressed
as a clown, I read the children stories, played games, and did
my best to lift their spirits, as other members of the group
fixed up the homes, and stocked food supplies.
That day a true desire to help children sparked.
However, after two weeks, I soon left Jamaica and was
unable to test this desire within my environment back in the US.
