Undergraduate Research in Biology at OBU

Research can be performed in a variety of different formats within the Department.   Since one of the requirements for the B.S. degree is a one-hour research component, students are encouraged to begin thinking about possible projects and which faculty member they would like to work with as early as the sophomore year.  The biology faculty are involved in several different areas of research.  The faculty description provides a brief list of the interest of the faculty, however, students are not limited to a narrow field of research.

Examples of research projects performed in the last few years include:

Alternative Culture Methods for Daphnia pulex
Physiological Mechanisms of Production and Action of Interferons in Response to Viral Infection
Composition of Cerophyll as a Food Additive Using GC/MS
Microcosms as Models of Wetlands in the treatment of Waste Water
Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage Using Different Substrates
Bioaccumulation of Methyl Mercury by Daphnia magna
The Use of Bioluminscent Bacteria in Toxicity Testing
