Curriculum Vitae

I am a native of Heber Springs, Arkansas and received my B.S. in Biology from Ouachita Baptist University in 1997.  I completed my doctoral studies in Pharmacology and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Mississippi in 2001.

The department of biology has recently completed a program review and curriculum revision.  As a result I will devote much of my summer to developing a new course entitled Molecular Techniques Laboratory in which students will survey and complete common molecular protocols used in modern research labs.  Additionally I will be preparing a course entitled Research Seminar that prepares students for their required Experimental Research course by aiding them with completing a comprehensive literature review, preparing a research proposal, and developing presentations and manuscripts.

My research interests are fairly broad, but they currently include the following areas:  1) Natural products and anthropogenic compounds as selective pressures on populations in general and biotransformation enzymes in particular; 2) Inducible defenses of marine organisms and the biochemical and molecular responses of their predators; and 3) Genetic mechanisms employed by zebrafish in their survival of hypoxic and anoxic conditions.
