Music departmental scholarships are available up to $5,000 per year for music majors based on audition. To receive a departmental scholarship, you must major in music with either a Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Arts degree. Music Major Scholarships are tied to GPA and Ensemble participation.
To maintain a scholarship, music majors must participate in Marching Band or Wind Ensemble in the Fall and Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band in the Spring. Additional scholarships are available for students participating in more than one auditioned ensemble a semester.
Scholarships – Non-Music Majors
Instrumental Activity Scholarships are available to non-music majors up to $2,000 per year based on audition. The Non-major Band Scholarship is tied to participation in Marching Band or Wind Ensemble in the Fall and Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band in the Spring. Additional scholarships are available for participating in multiple auditioned ensembles a semester. Non-major scholarship recipients are also required to take 1 semester of private lessons through OBU.
If you are interested in scheduling an audition, please do the following:
We do not have a pre-determined audition day. We will schedule your audition as much as possible to fit your schedule. Although we do not have an audition deadline, we encourage students to audition before the February 15 University deadline for scholarships.
Arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the audition time in order to have appropriate warm-up time
Auditions for both Music Major Scholarships and Non-major Scholarships are 2 prepared selections (All-Region or UIL etudes or solo literature) and sight reading.
Solo literature may be performed with or without an accompanist. An accompanist will not be provided.
You should seek the help of your band director or private lesson instructor in preparing your audition and selecting appropriate repertoire.
Sight reading is required. Practice sight reading by reading etudes and other literature for your instrument.
