Coach Garry Crowder begins his sixth
season as the Ouachita Lady Tigers head coach. In his time at Ouachita, he has become one of the most successful college coaches in Arkansas. His 1999-2000 squad set a school record for wins breaking the previous mark set in 1995 by his first OBU squad. They also became the first OBU women's team to be ranked nationally in the WBCA/USA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. Four of his five teams have qualified for post-season play. Before coming to Ouachita, Crowder spent 16 years in Arkansas High School Basketball. During these years, he was one of the winningest coaches in the state of Arkansas. His overall high school records stands at an impressive 404-109. Crowder began his coaching career at Taylor High School in 1979. During his three year stay, his team posted an overall record of 65-36, with all 3 teams winning more than 20 games. In 1982, Crowder moved to Jessieville High School where he spent 13 years as the Lady Lions Head Coach. Crowders teams won eleven Conference titles, nine District Championships, seven Regional Tournaments, made six final four State Tournament appearances, with two State Runner-ups. Coach Crowder also served on the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Executive Committee and was the 1994 Chairman of the Arkansas Girls All-Star Committee. Coach Crowder, 44, is married to Joan (Duke) Crowder. Joan is a 1985 graduate of Ouachita with a BSE degree in Elementary Education. She has spent thirteen years teaching in public schools in Arkansas. They have one child, Preston, who is two years old. |
