ARKADELPHIA - The Lady Tiger basketball team of Ouachita Baptist University returned early from their Thanksgiving break and in the process gained two Lone Star Conference crossover road victories over Angelo State University and Abilene Christian University on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Lady Tigers defeated the ASU Rambelles 83-81. Senior Jeannie Kennedy of Bryant led the team with 19 points, shooting nine of 18 from the field, and pulling down 11 rebounds. Senior transfer Jamie Scheppmann of Cove, last week's Lone Star Conference Player of the Week, shot five of 19 from the field, and seven of seven from the free throw line to total 17 points as well as seven steals and four assists. Sophomore Robyn Anders of Grapevine, TX also added 17 points on the night shooting six of 10 from the field including two of three from the three point arc. Kim Moore keyed ASU with 25 points with nine rebounds.
The Lady Tigers shot 29 of 75 from the field including three of 13 from the three point arc and 22 of 27 from the three point line. OBU pulled down 39 rebounds and grabbed 14 steals.
Coach Garry Crowder took his team to Abilene, TX on Saturday and Moody Coliseum to face the team ranked number one in the Lone Star Conference in the pre-season polls. The Lady Tigers came back from 25-30 deficit at the half to defeat the Abilene Christian Lady Wildcats, 73-72.
Scheppmann led the Lady Tigers with 21 points including eight of 21 from the field and five of five from the free throw line. Scheppmann also had eight rebounds and seven assists for the game. Kennedy shot five of 10 from the field for 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Freshman Jennifer Edwards of Ida, LA (Northwood) scored 10 points on four of six from the field.
The Lady Tigers shot 29 of 65 from the field including four of 15 from the three point arc and 11of 12 from the free-throw line. OBU had 32 rebounds and 14 steals for the game. Jackie Bucher led ACU with 26 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Tigers will come home to play two more LSC crossover games when the West Texas A&M University Lady Buffaloes from Canyon, TX visit Arkadelphia for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday, December 2 in the Bill Vining Arena at the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Center. The Lady Tigers will then take on the Zias from Eastern New Mexico University and Portales, NM.on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sturgis Center.
