Lady Tigers Win in Overtime

BATESVILLE - Crystal Allen of Linden, TX scored a career high 30 points to lead the Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tigers in an 82-77 overtime victory over the Lyon College Pipers Tuesday night at Becknall Gymnasium in Batesville.

Allen, a sophomore guard transfer from Louisana Tech University, was 12 of 23 form the field, including two three points, was four of five from the line and grabbed seven rebounds. She also dished out two assists and blocked one shot in 32 minutes of play.

Ouachita freshman guard Lyndsey Hawkins from Jonesboro (Valley View) came off the bench to add 13 points and contribute six rebounds in the winning effort. Starting Lady Tiger forward Jennifer Edwards from Shreveport, LA (Northwood) ended the night with 11 points and was her team's leading rebounder with 13.

The NCAA Division III Pipers (2-6) had four athletes in double scoring numbers led by Gretchen Hall, a senior forward from Sheridan, putting in 22 points and earning 11 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers (3-1) were behind the eight ball most of the evening, trailing 46-60 at intermission. At the end of regulation play, the score was tied 73-73.

As a team, coach Garry Crowder Lady Tigers shot 41 percent (27 of 69) from the field and four of 10 from the arc. They hit 24 of 35 from the free throw line and grabbed 37 rebounds. OBU had only 12 turnovers.

Lyon, a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference, was 24 of 66 from the field for 32 percent and five of 22 from the three point distance. The Pipers hit 24 of 31 from the charity stripe.

The Pipers outrebounded OBU, 39-37. Lyon had 17 turnovers in the non-conference game.

Ouachita plays the Central Baptist College Lady Mustangs from Conway on Friday, December 1 in another non-conference game at 6 p.m. in OBU's Bill Vining Arena in the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Cetner. On Monday, December 4, the Lady Tigers continue their non-conference action as they travel to Fort Worth for a 7 p.m. game against Texas Weleyan University.
