Ouachita Signs Two in Basketball

ARKADELPHIA - Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tiger head basketball coach Garry Crowder has announced the signing of two Texas high school athletes to NCAA Division II letters-of-intent to lay for the OBU beginning in the 2000-2001 academic year.
Stephanie Grimes, a 5-11 forward at Maypearl High School in Maypearl, Texas inked with the Lady Tigers during the early signing period, as did Kristen Hurdle, a 6-3 center at Fossil Ridge High School in Forth Worth, Texas.
As a junior, Grimes averaged 17 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and two assists per game. At the free throw line, she shot 77 percent, while connecting on 34 percent of her shots from the three point distance, and 55 percent from the field.
Grimes was named to the All-State, All-Region, and All Conference Teams. She was named as her conference player-of-the-year during her 10th and 11th grade seasons.
As a junior, Hurdle averaged 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game. She shot 65 percent from the free throw line and 62 percent from the field.
Crowder said he expects to sign two more athletes during the early signing period.
All four of these young ladies are exceptional players, he said. They will contribute in many ways to our team achieving our goals in the years to come.
Ouachita is currently a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference, North Division. The Univeristys athletic program will join the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference, West Division beginning in the 2000-2001 academic year.
