ARKADELPHIA - The Ouachita Baptist University Tigers fell to the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University 90-77, and the Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Bulldogs by a score 76-43 at Weatherford, OK on Thursday night February 24.
The Tigers came out strong and played a great first half leading the Bulldogs by a score of 42-41 at halftime, but could not maintain their momentum and fell quickly as the Bulldogs rolled to a 13 point victory.
Ouachita junior Mauricio Watson had a 32 point, 10 rebound performance to lead the Tigers. Watson shot 11 of 17 from the field, including four of seven from three point range and six of eight form the free throw line. Freshman Jarris Kentle of Pine Bluff added 17 points on five of 15 from the field and six of eight from the foul line.
Corey Johnson led the Bulldogs with 30 points, while Roger Rousell added 16, Tim Ray had 14 points, and Jayson Sanders put up 12 points for the game.
OBU shot 28 of 60 from the field, including seven of 20 for three and 14 of 18 form the charity stripe, while SWOSU put up 36 of 58 from the field, including nine of 20 from the three point arc and nine of 15 from the free throw line. OBU pulled down 34 rebounds to the Bulldogs 27, but the Tigers gave up 20 turnovers to SWOSUs 15.
The Lady Tigers again fell to the misfortune of Oklahoma road games as they suffered a disappointing loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. OBU fell behind early and struggled to catch up as the Lady Bulldogs took a 33-22 lead into the locker room. OBU failed to get a shot to drop, shooting a dismal 19 percent in the second half and lost 67-43. Senior guard Jamie Scheppmann of Cove led the Tigers with 11, 11 points under her average, on three of 13 from the field and three of four from the foul line and pulled down 10 rebounds. Kirl Neptune led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.
OBU shot a dismal 12 of 55 from the field for just over 22 percent. The women hit five of 23 from the three point range and 14 of 21 from the charity stripe. It was the worst shooting night from the field in coach Garry Crowders five year regime. SWOSU put up 20 of 47 for the game, including two of eight for three points and 25 of 31 from the free throw line. Southwestern pulled down 39 rebounds to Ouachitas 37. The Lady Tigers gave up 19 turnovers while the Lady Bulldogs lost 17.
