ARKADELPHIA - The Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tiger basketball team continues to impress voters in the region and the nation, while one of its players is ranked nationally.
Coach Garry Crowders 15-4, 5-2 Lady Tigers are this weeks number two team in the south central region of the NCAA Division II ranks. The Lady Tigers are ranked 24th in the latest USA Today/Womens Basketball Coaches Poll.
Ouachita senior guard Jamie Scheppmann of Cove (Van-Cove) is the weeks seventh most prolific scorer in the NCAA Division II, averaging 22.3 points per game. The average also puts her at the top of the list in the scoring category in the Lone Star Conference.
Scheppmann is thirteenth in the country in free throw percentage with 132 made out of a possible 152 attempts for a 86.8 average. The Lady Tigers, as a team, are ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II, while being first in conference in free throw percentage. They have connected on 393 of a possible 524 attempts for a 75.0 average.
The Lady Tigers are currently leading the pack in the Lone Star Conference with a game lead over the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Lady Savages (12-6, 5-3).
On Thursday, February 10, the Lady Tigers play the Northeastern State University Lady Reds, the leagues third place team, in a contest in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Northeastern is currently ranked third in the LSC North Division with a 12-8,5-3 record. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Dobbins Field House and can be heard, along with the mens game, over KDEL-FM (100.9) Radio in Arkadelphia.
Another road game for the Lady Tigers is set for Saturday, February 12 in Edmond, Oklahoma against the University of Central Oklahoma Lady Bronchos (13-7,4-4). The Bronchos are in fifth place in the conference. The Lady Tigers and Lady Bronchos will tipoff at 4 p.m. with the mens game to precede it at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Field House. Neither of Saturdays games will be aired over radio.
