The Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tigers kept their season seven-game home win streak intact, while the Tigers won their second consecutive conference basketball game in action Thursday night at OBUs Bill Vining Arena in the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Center. The Lady Tigers, (11-3, 1-2) defeated the Cameron University Lady Aggies, 75-51, while the Tigers (6-8, 2-1) won over the Cameron Aggies, 86-75. The win by the Lady Tigers was their first for the season against two surprising losses last week in Oklahoma to East Central University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Coach Garry Crowders Lady Tigers had three players shooting in double figures on Thursday night. Point guard Robyn Anders found her distance and scored 18 points including 10 of 11 from the free throw line. She was also the teams leading rebounder with eight. Forwards Corrie Gilliland and Tracy McBryde scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Leading scorer Jamie Scheppmann made eight points in 16 minutes of play. Post Jeannie Kennedy scored four points in only 10 minutes of play. The Lady Tigers seized the day and soared to a 49-22 lead at half-time. Cameron (6-9,1-3) was cold from the field in connecting on only 24 percent of their shots, while OBU was 14 of 30 for 47 percent. The second half saw OBU shoot only 39 percent from the field (nine of 23) as Crowder shuffled his bench. Cameron was better after the first stanza, hitting 13 of 36 from the field for 36 percent. The Lady Aggies had only one player in double scoring digits - guard Tisha King - who had 10 points. Cameron out rebounded Ouachita, 47-40. As a team, Ouachita was 24 of 30, from the charity stripe for 80 percent, while CU went 14 of 28 for 50 percent. Both the Lady Tigers and the Tigers will again be on their home floor in Lone Star Conference North Division action on Saturday, Jan. 22 as the teams host Southwestern Oklahoma State University from Weatherford, Okla. The mens game between the Tigers and the Bulldogs will begin at 2 p.m. with the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers to follow at 4 p.m. |
